IEC 61000-4-3 Radiated RF Immunity Test Standard

The IEC61000-4-3 immunity test requires the EUT (equipment under test) to function satisfactorily when exposed to a strong radiated electromagnetic field. (Like RF noise that can be created by mobile phones and other intentional radiators and from industrial processes accidentally or otherwise).

IEC 61000-4-3 Radiated RF Immunity Test Standard

This requires a frequency sweep (specified by the standard) at a certain fixed field strength level. The 'scan' will consist of a series of 'steps' in frequency. Each step is specified as a percentage of the current frequency value. This rate varies between 0,2% and 5%.

With each step the frequency is held, the level is adjusted to the required field strength (V/m) measured by a field sensor, a predetermined modulation mode is initiated, and then the conditions are held for a "wait" period. The EUT should be monitored during testing to detect malfunctioning. Typical values for field strength are 3 V/m for domestic products and 10 V/m for industrial products.

Other higher stress levels are often specified for certain types of products, for example medical and automotive. These areas are so dense that this test must be done in a screened room or test cell. Test cells such as GTEM or Laplacell are highly efficient but limited to small products. Screened rooms can be large, but relatively expensive and require powerful amplifiers to generate the necessary stress levels.

The Laplace series includes complete solutions for this type of testing. We can supply systems for use based on a test cell or inside a test chamber (Anechoic Chamber). When using a test cell (LaplaCell), the antenna and the field probe are integrated into the cell, so these items are not required separately. An antenna and a field probe are required if a system is being installed in an anechoic chamber.

Eurolab provides IEC61000-4-3 testing services to businesses within the scope of RF immunity tests.
