Altitude Test

EUROLAB Laboratory operates an altitude test chamber capable of simulating altitudes of up to 70 feet while providing temperature conditioning from -100 to +100.000 degrees Celsius. Special setups for altitude, rapid and explosive decompression testing are standard procedures.

Altitude Test Overview

Altitude testing, also called low-pressure testing per MIL-STD 810 Method 500, is performed to ensure that equipment can withstand and operate in a low-pressure test or high-altitude test environment. The altitude test is intended to be used for air transport of material on an aircraft, equipment designed for installation at high ground altitudes, and explosive decompression due to aircraft damage. Manufacturers of any airborne device should consider the impact of high altitude testing or low pressure testing on their products. The low pressure test can simulate problems that high altitude can create, such as:

  • Gas or liquid leaking from sealed enclosures
  • Tearing or bursting of sealed containers
  • Change in physical and chemical properties of low-density materials
  • Irregular operation or malfunction of equipment caused by arc or corona
  • Overheating of equipment due to low heat transfer
  • Evaporation of lubricants
  • Irregular starting and burning of engines
  • Failure of hermetic seals

Altitude testing is just one of the climate testing services we offer and our laboratory is equipped with the necessary equipment. Keystone Compliance assists manufacturers with altitude testing to determine a product's ability to withstand the harsh low pressure environment at high altitude. We provide accredited testing services in line with your low pressure test needs of the EUROLAB altitude test laboratory.
