This standard defines requirements for the description, analysis, design, manufacture, verification and in-service operation of thermal control subsystems of spacecraft and other space products.

For this standard, the full temperature scale is divided into three ranges:

  • Cryogenic temperature range;
  • Conventional temperature range;
  • High temperature range.

The requirements of this standard apply to the entire temperature scale. However, where applicable, it is stated that the requirements apply only to the cryogenic or high temperature range.

This standard is applicable to all flight equipment of space projects, including spacecraft and launchers. This standard can be adapted for the specific characteristics and constraints of a space project in accordance with ECSS-S-ST-00.
