NFPA 415 Airport Terminal Buildings - Standard Test for Fuel Ramp Drainage and Loading Walkways

The purpose of this standard is to provide reasonable fire protection for life and property in airport terminal complexes.

The purpose of the requirements that apply to ramp drainage systems is to limit the fire hazard from fuel spillage to:

• Controlling the spread of fuel spills to limit exposure to buildings, aircraft loading walkways, passenger lounges or elevated structures to prevent fuel liquid or vapors from reaching an ignition source or accumulating inside structures;
• Limiting the spread of spilled fuel onto the ramp surface and preventing the transmission of vapors by the drainage system that exposes aircraft or other equipment parked or operating on the ramp.

The purpose of this standard is also to specify minimum criteria for the fire protection of aircraft loading walkways that can serve as an exit path from an aircraft if a flammable liquid spills onto the airport ramp, exposing the walkway and aircraft.

The provisions of this standard are not intended to apply to facilities, equipment, structures or facilities existing or approved for construction or installation prior to the effective date of this document, except as determined by the competent authority.
