EN 12312-8 Aircraft Ground Support Equipment Part 8: Standard Test for Maintenance or Service Ladders and Platforms

This standard specifies technical requirements to minimize the hazards listed in Clause 4 that, when used as intended, may arise during the commissioning, operation and maintenance of maintenance or service ladders and platforms, including misuse that can be reasonably foreseen by the manufacturer.

These machines are designed for use as aircraft ground support equipment intended to serve aircraft in open weather conditions on the apron. They can also be used indoors in hangars. Use of such equipment for non-aircraft related operations is not defined herein as the intended use.

This European Standard applies to:

• Self-propelled fixed or adjustable maintenance or service ladders and rising platforms;
• Towable maintenance or service ladders and platforms equipped with electric vehicles, eg height adjustment, stabilizers;
• Maintenance berths fixed to the ground or movable only for berthing procedure;
• Ground support equipment specially designed, constructed and equipped with a fluid system for aircraft de-icing and anti-icing.

No extra requirements regarding noise and vibration are provided other than those given in EN 1915-3 and EN 1915-4. This European standard does not address the hazards associated with a standard automotive chassis and other vehicles on the apron.

This part of EN 12312 does not apply to maintenance or service ladders and platforms manufactured by CEN prior to the publication date of this standard.
