This specification covers polyurethane coating requirements with maximum volatile organic compounds (VOC) and maximum volatile organic hazardous air pollutants (VOHAPs). The coating is furnished in kit form.
The coating covered by this specification is divided into types and classes;
MIL PRF 85286E Standard Types
Type 1: Aircraft application (420 grams maximum VOC content)
Type 2: Support equipment application (340 grams of VOC content)
Type 3: Aircraft and support equipment application (maximum VOC content of 50 grams)
Type 4: Extended weatherproof aircraft application (420 grams of VOC content)

MIL PRF 85286E Standard Requirements
Pavers laid under this specification will be products authorized by the qualification activity to be listed on the applicable qualified products list (QPL) in the qualified products database (QPD) prior to contract award.
The materials used to manufacture these coatings are not limited provided that the resulting coatings meet the requirements of this specification.
The polyurethane coating provided under this specification will be in the form of a kit consisting of component A containing pigmented polyester resins and solvents, component B containing clear, aliphatic isocyanate resins and solvents, and optional component C containing organic solvents for the grade. Component B will act as the hardener for component A. The volume mix ratio shall be as specified by the manufacturer. The coating kit shall be supplied such that the mixed coating consists of the minimum volume specified by the procurement activity. When tested, no component of the coating must contain cadmium, cadmium compounds, or more than 0.05 weight percent lead metal or lead compounds, and the coating must contain no hexavalent chromium.
