The MIL-STD-704E standard, a United States military defense standard, describes the requirements for ensuring compatibility between the aircraft electrical system, external power, and aerial use equipment.
This standard defines the requirements and characteristics of aircraft electrical power supplied at the input terminals of electrical use equipment. At the same time, this standard specifies areas of responsibility for aircraft electrical system performance.
Abnormal operation occurs when a fault occurs in the electrical system and the protective devices of the system operate to clear the fault from the rest of the system before the abnormal operation limits are exceeded. The power supply may operate in a continuously low mode where the power characteristics supplied to the usage equipment exceed the normal operating limits but remain within the abnormal operating limits.
An aircraft electrical power system consists of a main power supply, emergency power supply, power conversion equipment, control and protection devices, and an interconnection network, in short, wires, cables, connectors, and similar equipment. Main power is derived from aircraft generators driven by aircraft propulsion engines. Emergency power is obtained from batteries, independent auxiliary power units, working air or hydraulically actuated generators.

When notice of change, revision or cancellation of this standard that will affect or violate the relevant international agreement is proposed, the preparatory activity is carried out through international standardization channels.
