AATCC 100 Antimicrobial Fabric Test

The AATCC 100 standard has been developed by the American Textile Chemists and Colorists Association (AATCC) to explain a quantitative test method applied to determine antimicrobial effectiveness in textile products. The full name of this standard is as follows: AATCC 100 Test method - Antimicrobial textile tests.

AATCC 100 Antimicrobial Fabric Test

Generally, antimicrobial textiles are hygienic textile products used in hospitals and health institutions to provide hygiene conditions. These textile products are not visually different from ordinary textile products and antimicrobial textile products are used for all textile usage areas where cleaning and hygiene are important. Due to the increased hygiene awareness and sensitivities, antimicrobial textile products have become wrapped around the world.

Textile products with antimicrobial properties are especially preferred in daily wear, hospital textiles, hotel textiles, home textiles and baby clothing. Various test methods and standards are used to determine the effectiveness levels of these products. One of these standards is the AATCC 100 standard. Today, there are numerous standards used to determine the antimicrobial efficacy properties of textile products in various countries.

The test method described in the AATCC 100 standard and used on antibacterial surfaces of textile materials is the parallel line method, which is a quantitative method. This method mainly consists of the following six basic stages:

  • Preparation of samples
  • Sterilization
  • Vaccination
  • incubation
  • Washing and rinsing
  • Counting

During the test, microorganisms are incubated under suitable conditions to determine the antimicrobial properties of the textile product. In other words, cultivated microorganisms are kept in a special device at a temperature necessary for their reproduction and for a certain period of time. Various microorganisms are used in these tests, especially staphylococcus aureus.

On the other hand, antimicrobial agents are useful additives that are used in textile production and provide resistance against odors caused by microorganisms.

Within the framework of laboratory testing services, AATCC 100 Antimicrobial fabric testing services are also provided to our businesses.
