This standard is applicable to polymer-based crown and veneer materials for permanent veneers or crowns produced in the laboratory. It also applies to polymer-based dental crowns and veneers that the manufacturer claims adhere to the substructure without macro-mechanical retention such as beads or wires.
Specific qualitative and quantitative test methods to demonstrate freedom from unacceptable biohazards are not included in this document, but reference to ISO 10993-1 and ISO 7405 is recommended for assessment of potential biohazards.
The test sample shall consist of one or more retail packages prepared for retail sale of a randomly selected shade from a single lot and shall contain sufficient (approximately 20 ml) of material to perform the specified tests and an allowance for required retests.
If fully cured samples are required for testing, it is important to ensure that the samples are homogeneous after removal from the mold. Visual inspection without magnification should be free of cavities, crevices or air inclusions.
For the color stability test, the sample will consist of two more randomly selected shades. The entire sample should represent one shade of enamel, dentin, and cervical resin.
