EN ISO 11948-2 Urine Absorbent Aids - Part 2: Test for Determination of Short Term Fluid Release under Mild Urinary Incontinence and Low Pressure Conditions

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN ISO 11948-2 testing. This part of EN ISO 11948 covers a method for determining the amount of fluid released (leaked) from a body-worn urinary absorbent aid when compressed at 1,5 kPa. The method is valid only for testing products intended for use with very mild urinary incontinence.

EN ISO 11948-2 Urine Absorbent Aids - Part 2: Test for Determination of Short Term Fluid Release under Mild Urinary Incontinence and Low Pressure Conditions

The method measures the amount of fluid release (leakage) of the absorbent material in the crotch region of a urinary absorbent aid under defined conditions of time and pressure. Other time and pressure conditions may be used, but may yield different test results and cannot be said to follow this standardized procedure.

It is also known from user trials that the urine absorbent co-user performance is affected by composition and design features such as shaping; profiling; composition of the absorbent core; elasticity; and the type of fastening system used to hold the product close to the body. The current method does not distinguish these product features. Also, the method may not accurately reflect the in-use performance of absorbent aids whose absorbent cores are designed to be non-uniform in composition and absorbent properties in the test area.

25 ml of test liquid is applied to the groin area of a whole pad and left for 1 minute. A weighed filter paper is then applied to the wetted groin area and compressed under 1,5 kPa pressure for 1 minute. At the end of this time, the pressure is released, the filter paper is reweighed and the mass increase of the filter paper is recorded as "liquid release (leakage)".
