The EN 1276 standard, a European standard, describes the requirements and test methods for the evaluation of the bactericidal activities of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the food industry, residences and workplaces.
This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN 1276 Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of the bactericidal activities of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in the food industry, home and organizations - Test method and properties (step 2, step 1).
This standard includes a quantitative microbiological assessment method to determine the antimicrobial activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics. Bactericidal or antimicrobial products, such as disinfectants and antiseptics, are used to suppress and combat various populations of microorganisms in homes and institutions, as well as for industrial purposes such as food, cosmetics, healthcare, and medical device production. Evaluation of bactericidal activities is especially important in improving the effectiveness and quality of these products.
Today, tests are carried out in advanced microbiology laboratories in order to evaluate the bactericidal activity of disinfectant and antiseptic fluids in accordance with EN 1276 standard. The test method described here is aimed at evaluating how effective chemical disinfectants and antiseptics are for reducing the number of viable bacterial cells of test microorganisms.
