ISO 13779-4 Surgical Implants, Hydroxyapatite, Part 4: Determination of Coating Adhesion Strength

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 13779-4 standard. This standard specifies a test method for measuring the adhesion strength of hydroxyapatite coatings intended for use on metallic substrate components of surgical implants.

No known surgical implant material has been shown to cause absolutely any adverse reaction in the human body.

However, long-term clinical experience with the use of material referred to in this part of ISO 13779 has shown that an acceptable level of biological response can be expected if the material is used in appropriate applications.

Coating adhesion strength is determined by applying a uniaxial tensile load to a cylindrical test assembly consisting of a hydroxyapatite coated sample bonded to an uncoated component.

Apply the polymeric adhesive to the axial center of the coating in one motion. Regulate the amount of adhesive applied and the force used to hold the parts together so that excess adhesive does not form a ring around the coated sample component joint.

After curing has taken place, remove excess adhesive without compromising the integrity of the test assembly. Contact the uncoated component with the coated specimen to maintain a planar parallel, uniform adhesive thickness over the cross-sectional area to be tested.
