ISO 20743 Textile - Antibacterial Determination of Antibacterial Activity in Finished Fabrics

Developed by the International Standards Organization (ISO), the ISO 20743 standard has been published to explain the antibacterial activity properties and test methods of all antibacterial textile products, including nonwovens. This standard has been published in our country by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS EN ISO 20743 Textile - Determination of antibacterial activity in antibacterial finished fabrics.

ISO 20743 Textile - Antibacterial Determination of Antibacterial Activity in Finished Fabrics

The standard in question offers quantitative test methods to determine the antibacterial activity of antibacterial textile products. These test methods can be applied to all textile products, including fabric, wadding, clothing, bedspreads, household items and fabrics, yarn and material for various products, regardless of the type of antibacterial agent used (eg organic, inorganic, natural or man-made). .

With these tests, based on the intended application and the environment in which the textile product will be used, as well as the surface properties of the textile properties, the most suitable of the following three vaccination test methods are selected to determine the antibacterial activity:

  • Absorption method: An evaluation method in which the bacterial suspension of the test is directly infused into the samples.
  • Transfer method: An evaluation method in which test bacteria are placed on an agar plate and transferred to the samples.
  • Printing method: An evaluation method in which test bacteria are placed in a filter and the samples are printed.

With these tests, colony plate counting method and luminescence method are specified to measure bacterial count.

In the textile sector, antibacterial-treated textile products are being released, and this practice is expanding from year to year. These textile products definitely meet the requirements of the consumer to protect against the negative effects caused by bacteria and not to decrease the quality of life. Therefore, test methods have been developed to determine the antibacterial activity for antibacterial textile products to meet the need for an international standard.

Within the framework of laboratory testing services, ISO 20743 Textile - Antibacterial treated fabrics are also provided by our organization for the determination of antibacterial activity.
