The full name of this standard is as follows: TS EN ISO 21148 Cosmetics - Microbiology - General rules for microbiological determinations.
The standard in question contains general instructions for conducting microbiological examinations of cosmetic products based on an appropriate risk analysis, for example, low water activity, hydro-alcoholic level or excessive pH values.
There is a wide variety of products and potential uses in the cosmetic world. For this reason, the instructions in this standard may not be suitable for all products in every detail. For example, some cosmetic products do not mix with water.
The purpose of the ISO 21148 standard is to ensure that the general techniques used for performing cosmetic microbiological examinations are the same in laboratories that adopt these standards, achieve homogeneous results in different laboratories, and contribute to the protection of laboratory personnel health by preventing the risk of infection.
