ISO 7206-1 Surgical Implants, Partial and Total Hip Joint Prostheses, Part 1: Standard Test for Classification and Determination of Sizes

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ISO 7206-1 standard. ISO 7206-1 provides a classification tool and standardizes the determination of dimensions for partial and total hip joint replacements.

This test procedure is applicable to implants with plane of symmetry or performing anteversion or double curvature of the trunk, and prostheses designed for use in revision surgery.

A dynamic testing machine and ISO 7206 fixture are required to perform this test. The bottom of the test sample is first embedded in a solid medium. A cyclic load is applied to the head of the sample producing biplane bending and torsion until the sample breaks or the selected number of cycles is reached.

Partial and total hip joint prostheses are designed to transmit load and allow movement under high stress conditions. Many different hip replacement designs are used around the world, and a set of test standards provides a comprehensive classification system and a comprehensive description of the most common hip replacements. The dimensions of the selected hip joint prostheses will be the basis for all testing standards in this series.
