This standard is also applicable to needles capable of injecting drug solutions, except where the use of needles intended to administer drugs may be dangerous due to their use.
The needles work with a suction device and have a rotary cutter. Automatic biopsy guns usually have 14 to 18 gauge needles, while vacuum assisted biopsy guns have 12 to 7 gauge needles that allow for 11 biopsies. The 9 gauge needle is very popular and allows removal of almost 1 cm of tissue.
Regardless of the number or size of core biopsy samples taken, the most important thing is to ensure adequate sampling from the intended target. The biopsy should demonstrate the presence of targeted calcifications on the specimen radiography with radiological pathological correlation to ensure that the pathological diagnosis is consistent and to explain the imaging findings.
