Antimicrobial Activity Determination in Plastic, Metal and Ceramic Products (JIS Z 2801)

New products are developed every day in the textile industry. In addition to the traditional model, color, touch and material differences, there are also innovations in the functional properties of textile products.

Antimicrobial Activity Determination in Plastic, Metal and Ceramic Products (JIS Z 2801)

Today, textile products are produced to meet the different needs of people in addition to their dressing and protection functions. Product features belonging to different sectors such as health, safety, cosmetics and informatics are now being added to textile products, and textile products are enabled to gain new and different functions without touching the appearance, touch and comfort features.

In this context, antimicrobial textile products are widely used in daily life, especially in health institutions, hospitals and hygienic areas. Textile products used in various fields such as baby clothing, upholstery, towels, napkins, kitchen cloths, sportswear and hotel textiles are now produced with antimicrobial properties.

Especially in developed countries and countries with high welfare and conscious consumers, hygiene awareness and sensitivity are gradually increasing and antimicrobial textile products are a constantly developing product group.

The JIS Z 2801 standard, published by the Japanese Standards Association, provides a test method for determining the ability of plastics, metals, ceramics and other antimicrobial surfaces to inhibit or kill the growth of microorganisms. This test method is very sensitive to antimicrobial activity and finds application anywhere from healthcare facilities, hospitals and clinics to residences where a material capable of producing bacteria is found. This test method is designed to test the ability of hard surfaces to inhibit or kill microorganisms over a 24 hour contact period.

The standard has become an industry standard for antimicrobial hard surface performance in the USA as well. So much so that this standard has been published by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as the ISO 22196 standard. In our country, this standard has been published by the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) with the following title: TS ISO 22196 Measurement of antibacterial activity on plastics and other non-porous surfaces.

In short, this standard provides an excellent method for determining the antimicrobial activity level of an antimicrobial surface. Among the various tests for antimicrobial activity of surfaces, this test method is considered one of the industry standards.

Our organization, among countless tests, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment, within the framework of national and international standards, to the demanding health institutions and manufacturing companies, in accordance with JIS Z 2801 standard, provides antimicrobial activity determination testing services.
