Standard Test for Approval of ECE R-30 Passenger Car Tires

This technical regulation contains uniform provisions for the approval of pneumatic tires for motor vehicles and for vehicles with rubber tires. This regulation covers new pneumatic tires designed only for certain categories of vehicles.

These tires differ from each other in terms of characteristics such as tire sizes, usage category such as normal road type or snow tire or temporary use, structural (such as double ply, prone arch, radial ply, flat tire), speed category symbol, load capacity index and tire section. It may be different. However, tires produced for vintage vehicles and race cars are outside the scope of this regulation.

Applications for approval of a type of pneumatic tire are made by the trademark owner or his authorized representative. During this application, tire dimensions, brand, usage category, structural features, speed category, load capacity index, whether it will be used with an inner tube, whether it is standard or reinforced, total section width, outer diameter, wheels on which the tire can be mounted and test pressure. All features should be presented in detail.

In the regulation in question, the cross-section width of the tire, the outer diameter of the tire, the measurement method of the pneumatic tires, the tire section width properties and the tire outer diameter properties are explained in relation to the tire dimensions. In addition, there are principles for load and speed performance tests and tread wear indicators.
