ECE R-80 Seats of Large Passenger Vehicles and Endurance Approval of Seats and Connections of These Vehicles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R-80 standard. The ECE R-80 regulation published by the European Economic Commission (ECE) regulates the principles for the approval of the seats of large passenger vehicles and the strength of the seats and connections of these vehicles.

This technical regulation contains uniform provisions regarding the approval of large passenger vehicles and their seats and anchors in terms of strength.

This regulation applies to vehicles of the following categories:

• M2 category vehicles (at least four-wheeled, motorized vehicles with more than eight seats other than the driver, used for the transport of passengers and with a maximum mass not exceeding 5 tons);
• Vehicles of category M3 (at least four-wheeled, motorized, with more than eight seats other than the driver, used for the transport of passengers and with a maximum mass of more than 5 tonnes).

This regulation does not apply to rearward facing seats or the head restraints attached to these seats. In addition, the installation of side-facing seats is prohibited on vehicles of categories M2 and M3.

An application for approval of a seat is made by the seat manufacturer or its authorized representative. A detailed description of the seat, its attachments and adjustment, displacement and locking systems should be provided at the time of application and adequately detailed drawings of the seat, its attachments and adjustment, displacement and locking systems at an appropriate scale should be provided.
