SAE J1113-2 Electromagnetic Compatibility Measurement Procedures for Vehicle Components

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of the SAE J1113-2 test. This standard is an SAE standard and covers requirements for determining immunity. It adjusts the characteristics of automotive electronic equipment and its subsystems according to the EM energy injected into each cable individually.

This test can be used in the frequency range of 15 Hz to 250 kHz. The method can be applied to all input, output and power cables. The method is particularly useful in evaluating DUTs with acoustic or visual imaging functions.

During testing, the electronic module, wiring harness, and peripheral devices are exposed to an electromagnetic disturbance generated within an absorbent-lined chamber. This standard limits electromagnetic disturbances to continuous narrowband electromagnetic fields.

The focus of SAE J1113-2 is immunity, which refers to the ability of a component to withstand and operate in the presence of electromagnetic disturbances transmitted through its terminals. The standard specifies the frequency range from 15 Hz to 250 kHz that measurement procedures cover. This frequency range is relevant to capturing transmitted disturbances that can affect the proper functioning of vehicle components.

The impedances seen by the signal, load, and power supply cables for the frequency range of this test are generally known and can be treated as lumped constants. In this test a wide range audio voltage source is connected to each specified pin of the DUT through a transformer in differential mode.

The signal source impedance should be low compared to the impedance of the circuit under test. Experience has shown that a maximum signal source impedance of 0,5 Ω is sufficient for testing. The DUT must be connected to operate normally. Real loads and resources should be used or simulated where appropriate.
