ECE R105 Approval of Special Structural Characteristics of Vehicles Designed for the Transport of Dangerous Goods

This technical regulation contains uniform provisions on the approval of vehicles for the transport of dangerous goods according to their specific construction characteristics.

The provisions of this technical regulation apply to the construction of trailers subject to the European Agreement on the Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) for goods intended for the carriage of dangerous goods in vehicles of the following categories:

• Motor vehicles of category N (at least four wheels, motor vehicles and vehicles used for load carrying)
• O1 category vehicles (non-motorized vehicles towed by a motor vehicle and used for load carrying, with less than four wheels and a maximum weight not exceeding 0.75 tons)

The application for approval of a vehicle type with regard to its custom-built features is made by the vehicle manufacturer or its duly approved representative.

Along with the application, the description of the vehicle in terms of the vehicle type's structure, engine characteristics (such as compression ignition or positive ignition), dimensions, configuration and component materials, the drawings and the maximum technical mass of the vehicle must be submitted to the technical service that will carry out the testing and approval processes.
