ECE R109 Manufacturing Approval of Coated Pneumatic Tires for Commercial Vehicles and Trailers

The provisions of this regulation cover the manufacture of retreaded pneumatic tires designed for vehicle types in the following categories:

• M2 category vehicles (vehicles with at least four wheels, motor, used for passenger transport and maximum mass not exceeding 5 tons)
• M3 category vehicles (vehicles with at least four wheels, motor, used for passenger transport and with a maximum mass of more than 5 tons)
• Category N vehicles (vehicles with at least four wheels, motor and used for cargo transportation)
• O3 category vehicles (non-motorized vehicles towed by a motor vehicle and used for load carrying, with less than four wheels and a maximum weight not exceeding 10 tons)
• O4 category vehicles (non-motor vehicles towed by a motor vehicle and used for load carrying, with less than four wheels and a maximum weight of more than 10 tons)

However, this regulation does not cover the following tires: retreaded tires with a speed of less than 80 km / h, tires originally produced without speed symbols and load indices, and tires originally produced without type approval and without the “E” or “e” mark.
