ECE R110 High Pressure Cylinders for Onboard Storage of Natural Gas Fuel for Automotive Vehicles

ECE regulations define cross-border technical regulations for establishing approval or uniform approval procedures for motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts.

Automated commercial vehicles are already fully eligible for approval only through appropriate individual measures in the country in which they will be used. What is missing is a set of rules at the international ECE level.

The United Nations european economic commission (UN/ECE) regulation 110 is the only standard for the assembly of certain components of the type approved for the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in propulsion systems and certain components of motor vehicles using compressed natural gas (CNG) in the front propulsion systems of vehicles. It covers the provisions and the tests applied accordingly.

According to the regulation, vehicles must act in accordance with the following general provisions;

• Certain components of vehicles using CNG in their propulsion systems will operate correctly and safely as specified in this Regulation;
• The materials of the components in contact with the CNG shall be compatible with the CNG;
• Correct and safe functioning of the component parts that are likely to be affected by CNG, high pressure or vibrations should be subjected to the relevant test procedures described in the annexes to this Regulation;
• Certain components of vehicles using CNG in their propulsion systems will comply with applicable electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements pursuant to Regulation 10, series 02 amendments or equivalent.
