ECE R122 M, N and O Category Vehicles Heating Systems Approval

• Category N vehicles (vehicles with at least four wheels, motor and used for cargo transportation)
• Vehicles of category O (non-motor vehicles with less than four wheels towed by a motor vehicle and used for load carrying)

This regulation mainly applies to the following type approvals:

• Approval of a vehicle type depending on the heating system
• Approval of the operating safety of a heating system

Heating system for the passenger compartment refers to any device designed to increase the temperature of the passenger compartment. The passenger compartment is the interior of the vehicle used to accommodate the driver and passengers. The heating system for the load zone, on the other hand, refers to devices designed to increase the temperature of the load area. Gaseous fuel referred to in this regulation includes gaseous fuels at normal temperature and pressure, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG).

The application for approval of a vehicle type for the heating system is made by the manufacturer or its authorized representative.
