Approval of Category L Vehicles Regarding Special Requirements for ECE R136 Electric Powertrain

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R136 standard. The ECE R136 test regulation covers the safety requirements for the electric powertrain of category L6 vehicles equipped with one or more traction motors that are electrically powered and not permanently connected to the grid, with a maximum design speed exceeding 1 km/h. For high-voltage components and systems galvanically connected to the high-voltage busbar of the electrical powertrain.

Approval of Category L Vehicles Regarding Special Requirements for ECE R136 Electric Powertrain

Covers the safety requirements for the Rechargeable Electric Energy Storage System (RESS) of category L vehicles equipped with one or more traction motors, which are electrically powered and not permanently connected to the grid, with a maximum design speed exceeding 6 km/h. This regulation does not apply to REESSs whose primary use is to provide power to start the engine or lighting or other vehicle auxiliary systems.

This Regulation does not cover post-collision safety requirements for road vehicles.

An application for approval of a vehicle type with regard to the specific requirements for the electric powertrain must be made by the vehicle manufacturer or its duly accredited representative. There should be a detailed description of the vehicle type in relation to the electric power train and the galvanically connected high-voltage bus.

A vehicle representative of the vehicle type to be approved shall be presented to the technical service responsible for carrying out the approval tests and, if applicable, with additional vehicles or such parts, with the agreement of the technical service, at the discretion of the manufacturer.

The application for approval of a REESS type or separate technical unit in relation to the safety requirements of REESS shall be made by the REESS manufacturer or its duly accredited representative.

If the type submitted for approval pursuant to this regulation meets the conditions in the relevant sections of this regulation, that type is approved. Each approved type will be given an approval number. Its first two digits will show a series of changes that include the most recent major technical changes to the regulation at the time of approval.

During testing, exposed conductive parts, such as the conductive barrier and enclosure, shall be securely connected to the electrical chassis by connection or welding or connection with an electric wire or ground wire, to protect against electric shock from indirect contact.
