Approval of Vehicles for ECE R14 Seat Belt Attachments, Isofix Attachments and Isofix Top Attachment

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of ECE R14 standard. The ECE R14 test regulation covers seat belts designed for adult passengers of forward-facing or rear-facing or side-facing seats with regard to their anchorage for vehicles of categories M and N1.

ECE R14 also relates to ISOFIX anchor systems, Vehicles in Category M1 and their ISOFIX top tether anchors are designed for child restraint systems Other vehicle categories equipped with ISOFIX anchors must also comply with the provisions of this Regulation.

Tensile tests were performed for DP600, Al 5754 H22 and Ti Grade 2 and Ti Grade 5 materials for vehicle passenger seat legs and transferred to be used in the finite element analysis program. Sofa skeleton analyzes were repeated for each material. The physical tests of the chair legs were also correlated with the finite element analysis. The compliance of the commercial vehicle passenger seat with the regulatory requirements has been demonstrated.

Within the scope of the conformity tests specified in the regulation, the forces indicating the safety belts are applied statically with the help of certain pulling apparatus. Observation of permanent deformations and local ruptures in the structure as a result of the applied forces does not prevent compliance with the regulation, it is expected that the seat belt will remain attached to the main structure by preserving the integrity of the structure (seat or body) to which it is attached. In test conditions, the specified forces must be reached as quickly as possible and the structure must be able to resist the specified forces for 0.2 seconds.

Within the scope of the development process of commercial vehicle seats, the studies were examined under three separate headings: driver's seat, middle row triple passenger seats and rear row quad passenger seats. All seat belt anchorages in the vehicle are on the seats, there are no direct trunk anchor seats. Therefore, the forces applied by the seat pulling apparatus and the seat belt are indirectly transmitted to the seat and to the body via the seat legs.

For the finite element modeling of the pulling apparatus, whole body and seat structure, Altair Hypermesh software was performed, and the analyzes performed with the explicit analysis method were performed with the LSDyna software.

Driver's Seat: The specified forces are applied to the driver's seat, which has a three-point seat belt connection, by means of pulling apparatus. The maximum Von Misses stress values and maximum plastic strain values formed in the results of the analysis were compared with the material rupture values.

Middle Row a Triple Passenger Seats: All triple passenger seats are connected to the body with the same seat leg and the profiles used in the body connection are planned to be the same for all seats. Therefore, the design development of one of the middle row triple passenger seat rows was carried out with the support of analysis, and the developed design was used in all middle row seat connections.

The finite element model was established using the mathematical model created after the conceptual design study, boundary conditions were determined in accordance with the test described in the regulation, and the stresses and plastic strains in the system were determined by applying the closed solution (explicit) finite element method. After the first analysis, design development proposals were created and the lightest structure that would be successful in the tests described as iterative was created.

As a success criterion, the compliance of the highest plastic strains determined in the analyzes with the mechanical properties of the material was checked, and it was aimed that there would be no failure in the system.
