Approval of Special Equipment of Motor Vehicles Using Liquefied Petroleum Gas in ECE R67 Combustion Systems

ECE R67, approval of vehicles of categories M and N1 equipped with special equipment for the use of liquefied petroleum gases in propulsion systems, regarding the installation of such equipment.

LPG components to be used in vehicles will be classified according to their maximum working pressure and function.

Class 1: High-pressure components, including pipes and fittings containing liquid LPG at a pressure greater than 3.000 kPa.
Class 2: High pressure parts, including pipes and fittings, containing liquid LPG at vapor pressure or elevated vapor pressure up to 3.000 kPa.
Class 3: Low pressure parts, including pipes and fittings containing evaporated LPG with a maximum working pressure below 450 kPa and above atmospheric pressure above 20 kPa.
Class 3A: Low pressure parts for a limited pressure range, including cylinders and fittings containing vaporized LPG with a maximum working pressure below 120 kPa and above atmospheric pressure 20 kPa.
Class 4: Shut-off valves and pressure relief valves when operating in the liquid phase.

LPG components designed for a maximum working pressure of 20 kPa above atmospheric pressure are not subject to this regulation. A component may consist of several parts, each classified in its own class according to its maximum operating pressure and function.

All components submitted for approval must bear the manufacturer's trade name or brand and type; and for non-metallic components also the month and year of manufacture; this mark shall be clearly legible and indelible.

All equipment shall have sufficient space to accommodate the rating of the component and, in the case of Class 1 components, also the approval mark containing the working pressure (WP). Each container shall also have a marking plate welded to it, which is clearly legible and indelible.

An approval number will be assigned to each approved equipment type. Its first two digits will indicate the series of changes containing the most recent major technical changes to the Regulation at the time of approval. The same Contracting Party shall not assign this alphanumeric code to any other type of equipment.

In accordance with this regulation, a notification of approval or rejection or extension of approval of a LPG equipment type/part shall be communicated to the parties of the agreement implementing this regulation through a form in accordance with the model specified in this regulation.

The shut-off unit of the device, which limits filling to 80 +80/-0 percent of the container capacity for which the 5 percent stop valve is designed, must withstand a pressure of 6.750 kPa. At a differential pressure of 700 kPa in the cutting position, the filling speed should not exceed 500 cm3/min. The valve must be tested with all containers intended for installation or the manufacturer must calculate and declare for which vessel types this valve is suitable.
