The FMVSS 106 standard specifies labeling and performance requirements for motor vehicle brake hose, brake hose assemblies, and brake hose end fittings. The purpose of this standard is to reduce death and injury caused by brake system failure due to pressure or vacuum loss due to hose or hose assembly rupture.
This standard applies to hydraulic, air and vacuum brake hose, brake hose assemblies and brake hose end fittings for use in passenger cars, multi-purpose passenger cars, trucks, buses, trailers and motorcycles, and these vehicles.
Brake hose assembly, armored or unarmoured, means a brake hose fitted with end assemblies for use in a braking system, but does not include an air or vacuum assembly prepared by the owner or operator, employee, or others of a used vehicle. it is a repair facility for installation on used vehicle.
A hydraulic brake hose assembly, or a suitable part thereof, when tested under the conditions of S13 and the applicable procedures of S6 shall meet any of the requirements set forth in this heading.
