EN ISO 14451-2 specifies uniform test methods for pyrotechnic substances for vehicles. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the pyrotechnic object is subject to any harmful effects when dropped from a certain height and in certain directions.
The purpose of this test is to determine the ability of the pyrotechnic object to withstand vibration and temperature conditions. The test can be performed simultaneously or sequentially.
The generator shall be equipped with a means to prevent unwanted radiated or conducted emissions of pulsed or continuous type so that the pyrotechnic object and auxiliary test equipment are not affected by these effects. The discharge return cable of the test generator must be constructed to ensure that the generator meets the waveform specification. It must be adequately insulated to prevent discharge current from flowing to personnel or conductive surfaces other than termination during ESD testing.
For calibration of the test installation, the heating rate should be measured with a steel cube made of mild steel with a side length of 50 mm and a mass of 975 g ± 10 g. The cube should be placed on the grill so that heat losses through the fastening contact are minimized. A hole with a maximum diameter of 3 mm and a depth of 25 mm shall be drilled to accommodate the thermocouple in the middle of one face. The diameter at the bottom of the hole should be adjusted to fit the thermocouple, ensuring good thermal contact.
The pyrotechnic object, firmly fixed in the appropriate tank, shall be ignited with an impact not less than the full flame rating, if practicable.
