This standard specifies the test methods and quality standard for weather resistance (especially exterior parts) and light resistance (internal parts) (hereinafter referred to as test methods) for automotive synthetic resin parts. Therefore, coated parts should be tested according to NES M0141 (Synthetic Resin Coating Test Methods).
As a basic principle, Okinawa will be the testing ground. In addition, the test site shall be free of any elements that would obstruct sunlight during the ranges from full east to full south and from full south to full west and for the period from 30 minutes after sunrise to 30 minutes before sunset. The said location will also be free from dust, soot, sand and the like. Also note that other test sites will need to be consulted with interested parties.
Exposure equipment shall be of robust and durable construction. It should also be equipped with mounting brackets that match the type, shape and dimensions of the test piece and the purpose of the test. The frame shall have a solid construction on a ground surface that is not adversely affected by storms, snow accumulation or the like. In addition, the frame in question must be installed correctly and all sections and fittings will be treated with appropriate anti-rust treatment.
The test pieces should be mounted on the exposure tester in such a way that they are not subjected to stress. Although it is a basic principle that the backplate should not be used for test piece assembly, it is permissible where support is required due to shape and material conditions. A non-oxidizing aluminum alloy, stainless steel or other metal should be used.
Visual inspection methods are introduced for the evaluation of material properties for test pieces that have completed the accelerated exposure test or the outdoor exposure test. Note that, where necessary, the evaluation of mechanical and physical properties will be carried out by type and location of coating materials, carpets, floor mats, and the like. Corresponding test methods will be in accordance with the relevant QEC or will be determined in consultation with interested parties.
