This standard specifies the acoustic requirements for foams and textile sound absorbers and defines the test for determining the vertical incidence of sound and the degree of absorption, including the evaluation and standardization of frequency.
It can be used for vehicle components that absorb airborne noise. This can be single-layer and multi-layer textile absorbents, foams and molded foam parts.
Which acoustic requirements apply depends on the material of the sound absorber and the vehicle's comfort level requirements and is determined by the acoustics department for the respective component and material for the thickness specified in the drawing.
The specifications apply to sample thicknesses between 6 mm and 25 mm, and the measured absorption degrees are mathematically normalized to 15 mm thickness by scaling the frequency values.
