PSA D41 1541 Flexible and Semi-Flexible Cell Materials Compressive Strength

The PSA D41 1541 standard, developed by the Peugeot automobile company, describes a test method for measuring the compression state after compression at constant deformation of cellular materials made of rubber or plastic.

Flexible cellular rubber products are known as sponge rubber and expanded rubber. The base material for a cellular product may be made of synthetic, natural, or reclaimed rubber or a mixture, and may contain other polymers or chemicals, or both, which can be modified by organic or inorganic additives.

Flexible cellular material refers to a cellular organic polymeric material that will not tear when a sample is bent one revolution at a constant rate of 18-29 degrees every 5 seconds.

The testing of soft foam materials is quite specific due to the nature of the foam consisting of a polymer. Test methods have been developed over time by national and international standardization organizations as well as by automotive industry companies. These methods are often used to test foam in a car seat, as well as insulating material or space fillers in a composite structure.

Cellular materials are generally classified as flexible cellular (open-cell) materials or semi-cellular (spongy, closed-cell) materials.

The test method described in the PSA D41 1541 standard involves subjecting a test sample to a constant deformation at a certain temperature and for a certain period of time, and then measuring it under certain time and temperature conditions.

Briefly, the purpose of this standard is to determine the resistance of soft and semi-soft porous materials made of open or closed cell and soft plastic. The soft plastic material is in the form of two parallel-sided sheets, strips, gaskets, or molded parts, such as plasticized vinyl, polyethylene. The bed and backrest and parts made of porous polyurethane materials with a leather-like surface are subject to the PSA D41 2003 standard.

Among the numerous test, measurement, analysis and evaluation studies it provides for businesses in various sectors, our organization also provides compressive strength testing services for flexible and semi-flexible cell materials, within the scope of PSA D41 1541 standard, with its trained and expert staff and advanced technological equipment.
