GB 8410 Test Standard for Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials

This Standard applies to the evaluation of automotive interior materials.

GB 8410 Test Standard for Flammability of Automotive Interior Materials

This Standard does not apply to the assessment of all actual flammability of automotive interior materials, as automotive interior parts (parts locations, placement and application conditions, ignition sources, etc.) differ materially from the test conditions specified in this Standard.

GB 8410 consists of stainless steel combustion chamber, gas controls and safety recoil device, fine-tuned ignition source, sample holders. The combustion chamber is a stainless steel enclosure with a heat-resistant window on the front for observation. The gas flow is controlled by a needle valve outside the chamber to provide flame stability. The connection is made at the top of the anti-kickback with a standard 6 mm hose hook.

Bunsen burner tubes option available. The tube marked with ISO has an inner diameter of 9,5mm and is suitable for GB. The Bunsen burner tube can be replaced and cleaned very easily. A needle valve (located outside) is used to set the flame height to 38mm. The calorific value of the gas supplied to the burner should be approximately 38 mm. The recommended gas source is natural gas or the flame temperature equivalent.

The test specimen is placed between two matching U-shaped stainless steel frames 25mm wide and 10mm high. The internal dimension of the ISO 3795 U-shaped frame is 50 mm wide and 330 mm long. The U-shaped frame is 2" wide and 12" long. A specimen that softens at the flame tip and bends to cause uneven combustion is held horizontally by supports of thin, heat-resistant wires 25 mm in diameter, spanning the width of the U-shaped frame below the specimen at 0.25 mm intervals.
