PSA D45 5259 Standard Test for Permeability of Rubber or Plastic Tubes and Pipes to Non-Fuel Liquids

The purpose of this method is to evaluate the permeability of rubber or plastic hoses or tubes that are in constant contact with a non-fuel fluid (coolant, brake fluid, oil, etc.). This method is based on ISO 8308 method B.

A pipe of known dimensions (length - inside diameter) is attached to one end and connected to a test liquid tank at the other end. The tube and tank assembly is filled with test liquid and subjected to a temperature for a sufficient time to reach equilibrium. The mass variation of the pipe and the tank device against time allows the surface permeability ratio of the liquid to the pipe to be expressed in g/d.m2.

Equipped with a waterproof cover (preferably metal), with a gasket compatible with the liquid and test conditions (eg EPDM and Adblue for refrigerant) and a nipple for tight connection to the pipe to be tested. The volume of the vessel shall be sufficient to ensure that the fluid is in contact with the pipe throughout the test and contains sufficient air to prevent pressure build-up during the test.
