GM 4350M Test Standard for Painted Part Performance Requirements

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of the GM 4350M standard. This standard covers laboratory testing requirements for a number of commonly used classes of paint finishes for automobile components.

GM 4350M Test Standard for Painted Part Performance Requirements

This standard does not cover appearance requirements or processing parameters expected to be specified in material specifications (998XXXX) and is not intended to cover paint surfaces used in conjunction with vacuum coated metal coatings and hot stamped.

For painted plastic parts only, combinations of substrate, surface preparation, and applied paint will use those shown in the GM Approved Paint on Parts Systems (APOPS) database. When APOPS testing is performed, each test must be completed on at least three samples, each taken from individual parts.

Parts that are welded primed and then overcoated at assembly facilities will be able to accept the specified topcoat system and meet all test requirements of this standard.

Typical Applications for Graduation Classes

A336-xxxIt is normally applicable to chassis and exterior vehicle parts with an wearable substrate such as uncoated cold-rolled steel, pre-coated steel, die-cast zinc, aluminum or magnesium. Sometimes metal is used for under-hood parts.

A168-xxx, can often be applied to metal under-hood parts. It can sometimes be applied to metal case components.

A96It has previously been used in exterior vehicle parts with paint on a glossy substrate such as stainless steel, anodized aluminum, and chrome-plated metal or plastic. Note that paint does not normally adhere well to glossy surfaces and passing the A96 requirement does not guarantee satisfactory performance in the field. Therefore, it is not recommended to specify paint on glossy surfaces.

A0can be applied to exterior vehicle parts that normally have plastic or other non-metallic substrates.

C96-xxxCan be applied to visible metal parts in the trunk and vehicle interior that would normally be exposed to moisture.

C24can be applied to vehicle interior parts with metallic substrates that are not normally exposed to moisture.
