GM 4435 Test Standard for Phosphate-Type Protective Surfaces

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of the GM 4435 standard. This standard covers corrosion protective varnishes for iron and steel, the main feature being the zinc phosphate treatment and a subsequent protective compound. Only a zinc phosphate grade can be determined. A suffix code system is provided to indicate certain limitations on compounds.

Parts coated with this coating are typically used internally for engines and transmissions or in areas where minimal corrosion protection is required. Parts coated with it will not contain hexavalent chromate in accordance with GMW3059 requirements. The GMW3034 will be used as a referee test.

Use of this polish on threaded surfaces or bearing surfaces of connections can affect the torque-tension relationship. Torque-tension study of the fastener connection is recommended before releasing this finish on a new application.

The coefficient of friction/torque voltage values ​​in this specification are also determined at ambient temperatures. New applications for this finish should be tested to verify performance under application-specific operating conditions.

Polishes conforming to the requirements of this specification can be used in the application range of -50 to 120°C. It is not recommended to use oiled coated surfaces against plastic surfaces. This specification should not be used in new designs. It is recommended to use GMW3179 for similar applications in new designs.
