This document describes a procedure for determining the immunity of 12 V automotive electrical/electronic devices for vehicle use to overshoot and reverse polarity voltage at power inputs to the device.
This procedure will determine the device's ability to operate as designed during the application of a positive overvoltage (26 V) to be experienced during an increased jump start.
It will also determine the device's ability to resist damage during the application of a negative battery voltage, such as would be experienced if the battery terminals were reversed during a jump start or vehicle service.
