GM 9505P Test Standard for Automotive Environmental Cycles

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services under the GM 9505P standard. Engineering qualifications of an approved source are required for this specification. Only welds listed under this specification number or GMW 3044 (trivalent chromate on zinc plating) in the GM materials file are engineering certified as meeting the requirements of this specification.

Some test cycles in this specification are best used as a quality control test and are not designed to validate potential field performance. See platform materials engineer for additional details.

GM 9505P Test Procedure

When this specification appears on an engineering drawing, actual parts coated with a representative paint system will be used.

Test specimens can be parts or panels if not on an engineering drawing. If using test panels, the recommended panel size is 100 x 300 mm.

Support the panels or samples on the rack so that they are kept in a position 15 to 30 degrees from the vertical, avoiding contact with each other during the test. The test panel orientation should be such that it is not chipped or screened by another test specimen or test equipment. Test specimens to be evaluated in terms of collision and dimensional stability will be assembled in accordance with the production purpose.

Subject the test specimens to one or more cycles as determined by the appropriate material specification or engineering drawing. There shall be no more than 2 minutes delay in transferring test samples from one medium to another. There will be no room ramp times between cycle conditions unless specified. Unless otherwise stated, the tolerance in exposure time is ± 5 minutes.
