Recommended Test Methods for Physical Protection of SAE J2192 Cable Assemblies

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of SAE J2192 standard. This SAE recommended practice describes recommended methods for testing flexible harness coatings for use in ground vehicle electrical distribution systems. This SAE recommended practice will apply to all tapes, extruded tubing and textile tubing.

Recommended Test Methods for Physical Protection of SAE J2192 Cable Assemblies

This standard shall apply to coatings used in wiring assemblies. The customer's engineering group must certify the material based on functional application performance requirements to ensure proper validation of the coating materials.

When samples are prepared according to this SAE recommended practice, samples covered with spirally wound tape will have two layers of tape, while samples coated with tape or other longitudinally applied coatings will have only one layer.

This can skew any comparison between skins, but more accurately reflects the typical usage of skins, meaning the comparisons are still valid. For tests where adhesive tapes are tested in only one layer (abrasion, noise suppression), additional double layer tests should be considered if tapes are compared to tubes.
