Using this method, the resistance of sample parts to automotive fuels is determined by evaluating them after repeated short immersions.

Painted or colored vehicle components where there is potential fuel exposure are typically included in this test as part of the performance requirements for painted plastic components.

Preparation of Fuel Test Liquid

Mixture A, in the first step, the trimethylpentane, toluene or di-isobutylene components must be mixed such that the final composition of the liquid corresponds to the composition given below.

Mixture B should be added to mixture A with appropriate volume fractions of the test liquid mixture, respectively, such that the volume portions of methanol and/or ethanol will give a composition approximate to that specified in 3.2.5.

Mix C, finally, acid (dissolved in absolute ethanol) or corrosive ingredient will be added to reach the final fuel test liquid (mixture C).

This fuel composition must be used for all technology approvals. Additional applications of this specification must be accepted by the responsible engineer.
