GMW 14669 Test Standard for Organic Coating Performance for External and Internal Metallic Components

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of GMW 14669 standard. This standard specifies performance requirements for organic surface finishes applied to metallic auto body parts and components.

GMW 14669 Test Standard for Organic Coating Performance for External and Internal Metallic Components

The focus is on the performance of coated parts for which the coating has been approved by GM, as evidenced by its presence in the GM Materials Approved Source List or other regionally approved materials databases. However, approval criteria are included for cases where new material is required.

This performance standard applies to organic surface coatings on metallic auto body parts and components.

Type 1 can be applied to surface coatings used on the outer body and exterior components in extremely heavy-duty areas such as the front of the vehicle, the sides.

Type 2 can be applied to surface coatings used on the outer body and exterior components in areas with little/no chipping, such as the vehicle roof and rear facing areas.

Type 3 can be applied to surface finishes used on external components that are not Type A1 or Type A2 and whose performance requirements must be specifically defined; this type is not typically used.

Type 4 can be applied to surface finishes used on interior body parts and components in areas with serious service operations, such as solar power; exposure to direct sunlight and corrosion; objects in contact with the wet floor, such as the lower seat structure.

Type 5 can be applied to surface finishes used on interior body parts and components in moderate service work areas such as solar power; exposure to indirect sunlight and corrosion; Items that are easily visible near the floor, such as the brake pedal lever, the speaker grilles in the lower door.

Type 6, In normal service operation areas, eg solar power; exposure to direct sunlight; wear; superstructure under the seats, structures visible with their covers open (e.g. glove compartment), or other barely visible steel components such as folded seats.

Structures not visible to customers (eg instrument panel support) may only require temporary corrosion protection and are not covered by this standard.
