This standard defines the minimum durability requirements for all interior, luggage compartment and climate control sound absorption/insulation applications where various materials are combined to provide an assembly with acoustic sound absorption/barrier/insulation and/or functional properties.
This does not include engine (hood) compartment insulators, thermal insulators and/or exhaust shields. Also not included are ultra-high-temperature parts exposed to heat from turbochargers, EGR systems, exhaust pipes, fender fillers and quarter wheel arch insulators.
Detailed part construction should be submitted with the test results listed in Table 1 for initial approval. Data must be submitted via the Ford Materials Database (FMD) template. Design Verification (DV) is performed on the part and Product Verification Testing (PV) is performed on production parts to verify supplier feasibility.
All materials, parts and components must be stored in an open environment for 14-28 days after manufacture and then packaged in heat-sealed polyethylene (PE) or PE lined aluminum bags for shipping. If the sample is 100% bonded, it will be tested as part of the production assembly composite. If not 100% connected, test each component separately. The parts to be tested must be labeled with the supplier and date of manufacture.
If test specimens cannot be prepared to the appropriate dimensions using material cut from the part, appropriately sized/prepared specimens should be taken from the molded material.
