EN 1175-3 Safety of Industrial Forklifts - Part 3: Special Requirements for Electric Power Transmission Systems of Internal Combustion Engine Driven Trucks

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1175-3 testing. This standard specifies safety requirements for the design and construction of electric power transmission systems for trucks with internal combustion engines running one or more generators with outputs up to (inclusive) 600 V to power running engines.

EN 1175-3 Safety of Industrial Forklifts - Part 3: Special Requirements for Electric Power Transmission Systems of Internal Combustion Engine Driven Trucks

The requirements of this standard apply when trucks are operated in the following climatic conditions:

  • Maximum ambient temperature, continuous operation: +40°C;
  • Minimum ambient temperature: -20 °C;
  • Service altitude: up to 2000 m;
  • Relative humidity: 30 to 95% (non-condensing).

This standard covers specific hazards that may occur during the intended use of trucks. For hazards occurring during construction, transportation, commissioning, decommissioning and destruction, reference should be made to EN ISO 12100-2.

All other contactors that interrupt the motor current in normal operation must meet the requirements of EN 60947-1 and EN 60947-4-1. For direct current (dc) application, it should be at least DC 3 category if used for shunt wound electric motors, DC 5 category if used for series wound motors, and at least AC 3 category for alternating current (ac) application.

Control and auxiliary circuits shall be protected against short circuit conditions and dangerous overcurrent. Several auxiliary circuits connected in parallel with a combined rated current not exceeding 12 A can be protected by a single device.

Electrical machines should be designed and installed in such a way that they are protected against foreign matter, moisture or mechanical damage; for example, function and adequate isolation must be guaranteed. The protection must correspond at least to IP 60529 according to EN 23.
