EN 12640 Intermodal Loading Units and Commercial Vehicles - Mooring Points for Cargo Safety - Minimum Requirements and Tests

This standard specifies the minimum requirements and test methods for tie-down points for securing cargo in commercial vehicles and intermodal loading units for cargo transport.

This standard does not apply to:

• Vehicles and intermodal loading units manufactured prior to the publication of this standard;
• Vehicles and intermodal loading units designed and built for the transport of bulk materials only;
• Specially designed and built vehicles and intermodal loading units for the transport of certain loads with special safety requirements;
• vehicles (delivery trucks) conforming to ISO 27956;
• ISO series 1 freight containers.

The tie-down points will be designed to transmit the forces they receive to the structural elements of the vehicle. It will be fixed on the loading platform and the vertical front end wall. At rest positions, it shall not protrude above the horizontal level of the loading platform or beyond the vertical surface of the front end wall into the loading space.
