GMW 14906 Lamp Development and Verification Standard

EUROLAB Laboratory provides accredited testing and conformity assessment services within the scope of GMW 14906 standard. This standard defines mechanical, electrical and environmental performance requirements, test conditions and procedures for lamps and reflective devices used for functionality and durability testing.

This procedure applies to all original equipment and replacement exterior lighting devices for passenger cars, multi-purpose passenger cars (MPV) and trucks.

Test Preparation and Evaluation

Calibration: Test facilities and equipment will be in good working order and have a valid calibration label. The exception is if information is otherwise protected in test facility records.

Alternatives: Alternative testing facilities and equipment may also be used. However, all measurement variables specified in this standard must be accurately determined according to their physical definitions.

Facilities: Any specific facility requirements are listed in each test procedure. Test facilities will be accredited by ISO/IEC 17025 or the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation.

Test Tool/Test Piece: Test specimens will be materials for production intent design and design validation (DV) or materials produced by manufacturing processes (main line) for intent design and product validation (PV). Any changes to components or materials, such as design, fit, form, function, features, manufacturing process or manufacturing site, may require re-verification. GM will approve validation methods for product/process changes before committing to supplier change.

Requirements and Procedure

Development: This part of the standard summarizes the development tests for lamps and reflective devices without defined acceptance criteria. The results are reviewed.

With the approval of the GM Validation Engineer and the GM Design Engineer, the supplier may test dimensionally correct or non-representative samples if time to obtain dimensionally corrective representative samples is prohibitive.
