The UNS 20000 series designates nickel-chrome manganese, corrosion resistant grades that cannot be hardened by heat treatment. The UNS 30000 series are nickel-chromium, corrosion resistant steels and are not hardened by heat treatment. However, UNS 40000 includes both a hardenable, martensitic chromium steel and a non-hardenable, ferritic chromium steel. Reference SAE J412 is recommended for manufacturing information and use of such materials.

Experiments are performed under changes in process parameters, including forging welding temperature, amount of deformation, and forging speed. The results show that the forging weld temperature is the most important process parameter and can greatly affect the tensile strength of the joint.
