GMW 15634 Test Standard for the Determination of Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds in Vehicle Interior Materials

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of GMW 15634 standard. This standard uses dynamic thermodesorption to determine the volatile organic compound (VOC) content of sample materials to be used in automobile interiors.

GMW 15634 Test Standard for the Determination of Volatile and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds in Vehicle Interior Materials

Both the VDA 278 and GMW 15634 test use our gas chromatograph / mass spectrometer (GC/MS) coupled with a precision Markes International thermal desorption (TD) unit.

The TD unit heats the analytes to a level that causes outgassing; it then collects the escaped VOCs and sends them to the GC/MS. This GC/MS separates compounds, identifies them by comparison with a large library of reference materials, and measures their masses to parts per billion (ppb). The TD-GC/MS process provides a comprehensive analysis of VOC content for consumer safety, quality assurance and standards compliance purposes.

“Total VOC” is defined as compounds in the chromatographic elution range from the beginning of the chromatogram to the end of emission, n-eicosane (N-C20).

"Total SVOC" or "FOG" refers to e.g. glass, plastic lens, etc. at ambient temperature. are emissions concentrated on a vehicle surface such as n-hexadecane and are defined as compounds in the chromatographic elution range from the beginning of n-hexadecane ( n -C16) to the end of n-dotriacontane (n -C32).
