GMW 16853 Comprehensive Standard for General Emissions Testing of Internal Materials and Components

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance service within the scope of GMW 16853 standard. This standard covers all indoor emission related performance requirements for all interior parts and/or materials identified as Code E parts in accordance with GMW14444.

GMW 16853 Comprehensive Standard for General Emissions Testing of Internal Materials and Components

Code E parts are found in the passenger compartment, trunk and HVAC ducts, trunk lining, insulations, etc. All parts that come into contact with freshened air in all parts with air flow to the interior, including

This standard will be used to evaluate the emission behavior of vehicle interior materials and components. This standard applies to all regional and global supplied materials and parts.

On the basis of size and weight, the following parts will be tested according to this standard:

All parts with an area ≥ 50 cm2 or a weight ≥ 10 g with inflow of air shall be tested.

All parts ≤ 50 cm2 or weight ≤ 10 g used multiple times in the vehicle shall be tested in the following case: The area or weight of the part shall be multiplied by the number of parts used in the vehicle. , if the resulting weight ≥ 10 g or area ≥ 50 cm2, the part shall be tested.

All parts containing polyoxymethylene (POM, acetal) will be tested regardless of area or weight.

If more than one (1) color of any material or part is used, only the lightest and darkest material colors should be tested.

The purpose of this specification is to continually improve GM's Interior Air Quality (VIAQ). All interior materials that may contribute to emissions to the vehicle's interior air must be individually tested and compliant before being added to the General Motors Approved Source List (GMMASL). These ingredients should be tested for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds (SVOC) per GMW15634. In addition, internal materials that may contain carbonyl compounds should be tested according to GMW15635.
