The material is typically a one-component, hot or cold temperature treated, moisture curing, black polyurethane adhesive sealing compound. Two-component chemical curing systems may also be considered within the scope of this requirement. These adhesives are used with compatible glass side and body sheet liners to bond automotive glass to body openings. Depending on compatibility, it can be used with or without a primer to bond to certain paint systems, plastics or metals.

Applications for materials approved to this specification include bonding and sealing fixed automotive glass. These are typically windshields, backlights, fixed tailgate, side and encapsulated glass. Materials approved for this requirement are generally designed for bonding the aforementioned automotive glass into painted body openings. Compatibility with other substrates may include, but is not limited to, Reaction Injection Molded (RIM), Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), or Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE).
