JASO D611 Standard Test Method for Automotive Parts

JASO D611 is a set of standards for motorcycle brake fluids created by the Japan Automobile Standards Organization (JASO). D611 standards specify minimum performance requirements for brake fluids used in motorcycle brake systems.

JASO D611 standards fall into two classes:

• JASO D4, which sets minimum performance requirements for brake fluids designated "point 611";
• JASO D5.1 which sets minimum performance requirements for brake fluids defined as "point 611".

The main difference between the two grades is the minimum wet boiling point (the temperature at which brake fluid begins to boil when exposed to moisture) and the minimum dry boiling point (the temperature at which brake fluid begins to boil when not exposed to moisture). Point 4 brake fluids have a minimum wet boiling point of 155°C (311°F) and a minimum dry boiling point of 180°C (356°F), while Point 5.1 brake fluids have a minimum wet boiling point of 185°C.

It is important that you use the correct brake fluid for your motorcycle, as the use of a fluid that does not meet the minimum performance requirements of JASO D611 can damage the brake system and reduce braking performance.

Please note that brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. It is important to keep the brake fluid container tightly closed and change it at recommended intervals.
